CANTINE BONFIGLIO

The Bonfiglio Farm is a family company located in Giampilieri (Messina, Sicily) established in 1986 by Biagio Bonfiglio.
However, the origins of the company date back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the Bonfiglio family used to farm their lands in Briga (province of Messina), producing olive oil, lemons and oranges.
At the beginning of the 2000s, the company further developed and, after having explanted part of the citrus grove, the grounds were restored and became vineyards. Moreover, the Bonfiglio family acquired some farmlands in Piano Cuturi (Giampilieri) to enrich their estate and grow their production.
Finally, in 2015, the company was given the current trade name of “Cantine Bonfiglio”.

The vineyards cover about 1,5 hectares and are set on a fascinating position on a hilly area south of Messina.
The vineyards in Contrada Greco (Briga Marina) are located downstream of a hill with west/southwest exposure, while the vineyards in Piano Cuturi (Giampilieri) are located on a plateau overlooking the village of Giampilieri Marina, with east/south-east exposure, offering a unique and charming panoramic view over the Strait of Messina.

In the wine production, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand. Subsequently, they are transported in special crates and vinified maintaining high quality standards in the utmost respect for tradition.
The grapes are selected and harvested in different periods depending on their quality, in order to better enhance the characteristics of each vineyard and respecting the rhythms of ripeness of the different varieties of grapes. The aging of the wine is carried out in French durmast oak tonneau, located in a controlled temperature environment.

In 2018, the company has been granted with the first organic certification for the grapes and for the production in the winery by the “Suolo e Salute” Inspection and Control Body.
